Four libraries set to close in cost-cutting move

Nottingham City Council is planning to close four libraries to save money.
Libraries in Basford, Bilborough, Radford-Lenton and Aspley have been earmarked to shut in a move aimed at saving about £1.5m over the next two years.
Staffing cuts, shorter opening hours and a reduced book budget also form part of the shake-up, which will leave 11 council-run libraries in the city.
A 12-week consultation is due to be carried out on the proposals.
Colin Wilderspin, the council's interim director of communities, said: “Reshaping our library services and saving £1.5m is a daunting and challenging task.
"This does mean the need to consider the closure of some libraries, which I know will be disappointing to users of the library services.
"I would reiterate that no decisions have been made, and your input from this consultation will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Nottingham's libraries."
Book lovers in Basford told the BBC they were disappointed by the plans.
Mitchell Steele, 27, who runs two groups at the library, said: "Half of the members at my club are disabled, where will they go if this place closes?
"Being autistic myself, I struggle socialising. This library has given me the chance to get out my house, socialise and make new friends.
"Suggesting that we go to the library in town isn't right. It's too far. They can't take this place away."
Six-year-old Ralph said: "It's a little bit scary because there's so many good books here. I love this place."
His mother Sibell added: "It's our local library. It's so important for children to come here and get involved in reading, especially in half-term."
Carol Jones said she would use other libraries if Basford's closes but others could miss out.
She said: "I can get a bus or use my car to get elsewhere. But for those who live locally and don't have that, it's a shame."
