Police targeted cars blocking pavements in Washwood Heath

Drivers have been issued with fines by police after their cars were found blocking pavements.

Fourteen tickets were given out in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, on Wednesday, including cars on Phillimore Road and Eastfield Road.

West Midlands Police said more fines had been issued earlier this week as it worked to improve parking standards in the area.

"Owners were seen to rush back to move their vehicles, but this was a little late after we responded to community concerns," police added.

The force described public safety as "paramount" as cars were seen parked on grass verges and blocking paths.

Police added that fly-tipping uncovered during the operation had been reported to Birmingham City Council.
