A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a serious attack outside a restaurant.

Essex Police attended Toby Carvery on Prince Avenue, Westcliff-on-Sea, at about 21:55 BST on Thursday.

Officers found a man with "serious injuries" to his neck and he was taken to hospital, the force said.

A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

The man remained in custody for questioning earlier, police said.

Insp Michael Pearson added that officers were not seeking anyone else in connection with the alleged assault.

“This was a busy pub and we believe there may be several people who witnessed what happened last night and may be able to help us with our investigation," he said.

“It doesn’t matter how small a detail – we want to hear from anyone who can help us establish the facts.”
