Man to appear in court on rape charge

A man is due to appear in court charged with offences including rape following an alleged attack on a woman in Dewsbury.

Amanat Ali Tariq was arrested in connection with the incident which took place in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Tariq, 42, of Wellington Road East, is also charged with two offences of attempted rape, section 18 assault, two offences of fraud and theft.

He was due to appear before Leeds magistrates later, West Yorkshire Police said.

The force said the victim continued to be supported by specially trained officers and inquiries remained ongoing.
