Four teens in court over crash that killed teacher

Four teenagers have appeared in court over a crash that killed a popular retired teacher.

Joan Hill, 73, from Rugeley, died on the A5 near Longford Island, Cannock, on New Years Day 2023.

Aiden Adams and Bryan Micklewright, both 18, are accused of causing death by dangerous driving among several other charges. Two 16-year-old boys are accused of aggravated vehicle taking and death caused by an accident.

All four, from Walsall, appeared before magistrates in Cannock on Tuesday and were released on conditional bail to appear at Stafford Crown Court on 22 July.

Mr Adams is also facing charges of three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice.

He is also accused of making off without making payment, theft of a pedal cycle, attempted theft of a pedal cycle and theft of a mail bag or postal packet.

Mr Micklewright is accused of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, theft from a motor vehicle, and three counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

He is also accused of burglary, making off without making payment, theft of a pedal cycle and attempted theft of a pedal cycle.

The boys, who cannot be named, are also jointly charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, making off without making payment, and attempted theft of a pedal cycle.

One of the unnamed teenagers is accused of committing an act or series of acts with intent to pervert the course of justice.
