Green light for 500 new homes in town

Plans to build more than 500 new homes in Immingham have been approved.
The development, on land off Stallingborough Road, was given the green light by North East Lincolnshire Council's planning committee on Wednesday.
Beal Homes, the East Yorkshire-based builder, said it would invest £105m in the project.
However, some residents raised concerns about the availability of doctors, dentists and banking services in the town.
'Enhanced choice'
Chris Murphy, land director at Beal, said the development of 525 homes would "enhance the quality, availability and choice of homes in the area".
The company said it would provide a range of two, three and four-bedroom properties to "support major investment" in the area, as the "Humber region benefits from its ever-growing reputation as the UK’s Energy Estuary".
The authority imposed conditions in relation to construction materials, a phasing plan and the provision of swift bricks to support local birdlife.
A planning report showed that there had been no objections from those asked to comment on the application, including the council's highways team, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency.
However, objections were received from 18 addresses in Immingham, with comments highlighting concerns about drainage, increased traffic, and the impact on ecology and the character of the town.
