Swimming pools across Lincolnshire have been given £2.5m funding to improve energy efficiency and reduce running costs.

The cash comes from the second phase of the government's Swimming Pool Support Fund, which will split £60.5m between 325 pools in England.

The Yarborough Leisure Centre is the biggest Lincolnshire beneficiary getting £614,350 for solar panels and fans.

Lisa Dodd-Mayne, the executive director at Sport England said the money would help pools to "remain available for future generations to enjoy”.

The scheme was launched last year by the government as leisure centres faced financial pressure from rising energy costs and staff shortages.

In the short-term, the money was allocated to help pools to stay open and then fund longer-term projects to reduce bills.

The full list of pools to receive funding in Lincolnshire is:

  • Yarborough Leisure Centre, Lincoln, £614,350

  • Meridian Leisure Centre, Louth, £591,173

  • Grantham Meres Leisure Centre, Grantham, £445,725

  • West Lindsey Leisure Centre, Gainsborough, £401,500

  • Princess Royal Sports Arena, Boston, £203,858

  • One NK, North Hykeham, £165,713

  • Wragby Swimming Pool, Wragby, £59,023

  • Jubilee Park, Woodhall Spa, £57,258

Ms Dodd-Mayne described leisure centres as "vital community resources" and "enormously important".

"Many pools have faced a real and significant threat to their survival this year," she added.
