PCSO 'didn't have time to think' before saving baby

A police community support officer (PCSO) has been praised for saving a newborn baby's life.
Chris Asante-Ampudah was responding to an incident in Corby, Northamptonshire, when the baby's desperate father flagged him down.
Mr Asante-Ampudah said he "didn't have time to think" and his training "just kicked in".
Ch Insp Paul Cash, from Northamptonshire Police, said the officer did "an incredible job".
PCSO Asante-Ampudah, from the Corby neighbourhood policing team,, external had been responding to reports of anti-social behaviour on the evening of 8 July when a man came running up to him asking for help.
The man said his newborn baby was not breathing.
The PCSO radioed for an ambulance and ran to the baby's home, where he found the lifeless child in their mother's arms.
He started chest compressions and rescue breaths, and was relieved to find the baby starting to breathe independently.
He stayed with the family to keep an eye on the baby until the arrival of more first responders and paramedics.
The baby was taken to hospital to be assessed and monitored.
'Tragedy averted'
Mr Asante-Ampudah said: "In the moment I didn’t have time to think, my training just kicked in, but afterwards I realised what an overwhelming and emotional experience it was, especially as a parent myself.
"I’ve since been back to visit the family and it was wonderful to see the baby is doing well and they are getting lots of support.
"I even got a cuddle with the little one which was really special."
Ch Insp Cash added: "This situation is any parent’s worst nightmare, but thanks to the quick actions of Chris, who stayed calm and put his training into action so professionally, a tragedy was averted.
"Happily, the family have told us that the baby is expected to make a full recovery, and as well as expressing their thanks to him, they have given us permission to share the incredible job Chris did that day.
"His actions undoubtedly saved that baby’s life."
