A historic church has launched a fundraising appeal for "critical" roof repairs.

Edithmead Church, in Stoddens Lane, near Burnham-on-Sea, is known as "The Tin Church" and was built in 1919.

The timbers around the building and the gables underneath the roof need replacing with the work expected to cost £8,500.

"We need to keep this little building safe and secure for future generations to use and enjoy," church treasurer Maureen Phillips said.

Local communities in Edithmead, Watchfield and the surrounding area, worship in the church, which can accommodate up to 60 people.

A church spokesperson said the roof is "in a critical condition and it urgently needs repairs" due to weathering and its age.

The congregation have always raised funds for repairs by holding various events and it is now looking for other ways to fundraise. A Just Giving page has been set up to help pay for the repairs.
