A suspect has been arrested after reports a man climbed up scaffolding next to a main road in Leicester.

Police closed Welford Road in the city centre at 17:00 BST on Thursday after reports the man had entered a building site.

The force warned there was a "danger to drivers" and urged them to stay away from the area. The road was closed overnight until 05:00 on Friday.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and using threatening and abusive behaviour.

Police said he remained in custody on Friday.
