Fire at city centre pub blamed on electrical fault

Firefighters arrived shortly after 03:00 to find smoke and flames coming from the pub

A fire has ripped through a city centre pub.

The blaze broke out at about 03:00 BST at the Platform Tavern on Town Quay, Southampton.

Crews from across the city were sent and found smoke and flames coming from the three-storey building. It is thought it was caused by an electrical fault.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said no-one was inside the pub at the time and there were no injuries.

Firefighters put out the fire with hose reel jets and used fans to clear the smoke from the building by 04:30.
