A former town councillor accused of attempting to murder his wife will face a retrial.

Darren Brown, 35, of Tairfelin in Wildmill, Bridgend, appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Monday.

It comes after a jury failed to reach a verdict following a trial earlier this month.

Mr Brown previously pleaded guilty to wounding Corrine Brown, 33, with intent, but has denied attempted murder.

Police were called to a serious assault at the family home in Wildmill at 22:30 BST on 10 July 2023.

Ms Brown was taken to hospital in a stable condition, but has since been discharged.

Mr Brown was an independent council member representing the Morfa ward on Bridgend town council and resigned in September 2023.

He also sat as an independent councillor on Coity Higher Community Council.

A new trial date has been set for 7 October and Mr Brown was remanded in custody.
