A man has been arrested and charged over several acts of vandalism in Glasgow - including an attack on the cenotaph in the city centre.

The monument in George Square was defaced with graffiti stating that the ongoing conflict in Gaza was a "real holocaust".

The images were strongly criticised on social media.

Police have now confirmed a 46-year-old man has been charged regarding the vandalism, which took place on Saturday.

He will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

An estimated 27,000 Palestinians have died in the Gaza conflict, according to the Gaza health ministry.

Israel launched its military operations in Gaza after Hamas killed more than 1,200 people on 7 October, and took 253 people hostage.
