A 12th Century church is getting a £50,000 grant to install solar panels on its roof.

St Wulfram’s church in Grantham, Lincolnshire is one of number of community organisations in South Kesteven to benefit from the local prosperity fund.

The district council said more than £260,000 would be paid out to 18 groups.

Other recipients include the Corn Exchange Theatre in Stamford and a bereavement support service.

Stamford Art Pop Up received £35,421 to help fund activities for families and young people.

A plan to develop an Airborne Forces Visitor Trail across South Kesteven was given £15,000.

Chairman of the Shared Prosperity Fund, councillor Philip Knowles said more money was available to local groups.

"This funding stream is a straightforward way to help pay for projects which support the whole community," he said.

“The criteria is clear. The project should provide a public benefit, which could be targeted at a specific demographic, or the community as a whole."
