A man was attacked with a hammer and machete during a walk with friends, police have said.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was struck in the head after he was approached by two men on Millennium Bridge in Lancaster in the early hours of 11 May.

Lancashire Police said a "scuffle" broke out between the men after the Highest Point Festival had finished.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.

The force said a small bag was taken from him, with the men then running off across the bridge towards the Ryelands area.

Officers have urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
