A teenage boy and girl have been charged with murdering a man in an alleged stabbing.

Gary Belfield, 40 and from the Manchester area, died at a property on Elliot Drive in Felling, Gateshead, on 27 April.

A 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl are due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Another 17-year-old boy had already been charged with attempted murder and appeared at magistrates on Wednesday where he was remanded in custody.

Two men and three women, aged between 21 and 51, remain on police bail, Northumbria Police said.

Det Ch Insp Louise Jenkins said the force's thoughts remained with Mr Belfield’s family and loved ones.

She said: "Our officers continue to support them in any way we can, and we would ask the public to avoid speculation both in the community and online which could jeopardise the ongoing proceedings."
