A new indoor skate park and community has been approved for Devon.

North Devon Council agreed the change of use of an industrial building at 107 East Street in South Molton for Skate Molton.

The skating group has been running sessions in South Molton Pannier Market.

Noise restrictions will be put in place to protect residents, the council said.

'Much-needed facility'

The planning authority received one letter of objection from a neighbouring resident concerned about noise.

The council responded by restricting the skate park's opening hours to 09:00 BST to 21:00 Monday to Saturdays and 10:00 to 18:30 on Sundays and public holidays.

A supporter of the park, Maria Collett, said: “This is a much-needed facility especially for young people, giving them somewhere to learn new skills, work alongside others and make friends.”

More than 600 people currently skate with Skate Molton which has members aged two to 64.
