Man arrested after woman dies in three-car crash

A woman in her 60s died in the three-car collision, police said

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a three-car crash which killed a woman.

Police said the crash happened at about 14:30 BST on the A441, Alvechurch Highway in Redditch.

One of the drivers, a woman in her 60s, died at the scene and two men were taken to hospital.

West Mercia Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch with serious injuries.

Another man was taken Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries.

The police force said three vehicles were involved in the crash: A blue Volkswagen Golf GTE, a grey Vauxhall Crossland, and a red Fiat 500X.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to Bordesley Lane near the Alvechurch Highway Island.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "On arrival crews discovered a woman in a critical condition.

“Ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts it became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses of the crash and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
