Cyclist seriously injured in crossing crash

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a crash involving a vehicle which failed to stop, said police.

The cyclist, a woman in her 40s, "was struck on the toucan crossing of the Great Western Way, Swindon, on the approach to Bruce Street Bridges roundabout," said Wiltshire Police.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and said inquiries to identify the vehicle and driver were continuing. The force also released two images of the location of the crash, which happened between 20:40 and 20:50 BST on Wednesday.

The woman sustained serious leg injuries and remains in hospital for treatment.

"The vehicle which collided with the cyclist failed to stop and at this time the identity of the vehicle and driver are unknown," said a police spokesperson.

It is believed the vehicle involved would have been travelling from the direction of Bridgemead towards Bruce Street Bridges.
