A 50-year-old man's body has been recovered from Kirkwall harbour in Orkney.

Police Scotland said the discovery was made at about 05:40 on Wednesday and emergency services were sent to the scene.

Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat crew was also called to assist officers and HM Coastguard teams at the pier.

Police Scotland later said there were no suspicious circumstances.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Orkney Ferries linkspan - a bridge that connects ships to the shore - was closed for a time as police investigated the scene, leading to the cancellation of the ferry to Sanday and Eday.

The linkspan later reopened and the company said ferry services were operating as normal.
