£9m GP hub to tackle 'overcrowding' in Sheffield

Two GP surgeries in Sheffield will close under a scheme for them to be replaced by a £9.4m hub.
The sites planned for closure are The Healthcare Surgery on Palgrave Road in Southey Green and Buchanan Road Surgery in Parson Cross.
A report to the city council's Finance Committee described the project as "transformational", with patients being offered a wider range of services under one roof.
Funded by NHS England, the City Council would develop the new hub and become landlord, leasing the building to GPs for a 60-year period.
The plans are part of a wider project to change where people get health services in Sheffield.
In total the cost was £37m and included the closure of the existing Burgreave Surgery and the Sheffield Medical Centre, with services being relocated to new premises on Street.
Elsewhere, two other surgeries on Mulberry Street would be replaced by a city centre GP surgery in the old Royal Bank of Scotland building on Church Street.
The Parson Cross and Southey element of the changes were the first to receive finance committee approval, and the new Wordsworth Avenue centre was expected to be completed in 2025.
A report to the committee said that the new building would “address the challenges of the growing population that was estimated to rise from 12,265 to 13,332 by 2041 for The Healthcare Surgery and Buchannan Road Surgery”.
