A number of new speed cameras in Stoke-on-Trent have been vandalised just weeks after being installed.

Some of the devices on Stone Road in Trent Vale have been spotted with stickers obscuring the lens.

Staffordshire Police said officers were aware of the issue and were investigating.

The cameras were installed in November as part of a scheme to make it easier to catch speeding motorists.

In total the force said it would install 20 new speed cameras across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

It said it had chosen locations where existing fixed cameras had been effective in reducing the number of collisions.

The new cameras were funded by the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership, which is a collaboration between the local police, fire service, councils and National Highways.

The new technology automatically sends images of speeding vehicles to the partnership’s enforcement team to use as evidence of road traffic offences.
