A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people were found injured near a McDonald's restaurant.

Essex Police officers were called to Drovers Way, Chelmsford, at about 21:25 GMT on Monday.

Officers found two people hurt in a "collision" and after a search of the area, they located a suspect.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

The pair hurt in the incident, near the Boreham Interchange, were taken to Broomfield Hospital while police inquiries continued.

"This arrest was thanks to the quick work of our traffic officers, dog units and Operational Support Group," Supt Philip Stinger added.

"We would like to thank the public for their patience while we remained at the scene."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed it was called to reports of a collision.
