A road was blocked through a Devon village after two deer became entangled in netting.

The incident near Sparkwell, on Dartmoor, at about 10:00 GMT, led to delays on the road through the village before they were freed by police with the help of locals.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called to Birchland Road, Sparkwell, after a report of concern for two deer.

They said response officers were able to release the deer.

"Officers attended and found that the deer’s antlers had become locked together," said a spokesperson for the force.

Neither of the deer appeared to have sustained any injuries and the road was cleared after about 40 minutes.

Plymouth Citybus posted on X, formerly Twitter,, external that "due to a wildlife incident", its 59 service had been unable to serve Sparkwell.

It posted later that services had been resumed.
