A swimming pool remains closed after a "devastating" leak destroyed electrical equipment.

Operator Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (IHL) said a pipe burst in the plant room of Rugeley Leisure Centre on 23 December.

"Significant" damage had been caused to the equipment that keeps the water clean and safe, it added.

Customers would be told about a reopening date as soon as insurers had authorised repair costs, IHL said.

"We’re devastated by this incident", said Neil Hutchinson from IHL, which runs the site on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council.

"There’s never a good time for something like this to happen, but this is one of our busiest times of year, and we genuinely feel for our customers".

People who used the pool were being contacted and offered alternative arrangements in the interim, including taking swimming lessons at Chase Leisure Centre.
