Man charged with murder over town centre death

A man has been charged with murder following a death in Beverley town centre.
Humberside Police were called to Lairgate, near the junction with Saturday Market, to reports of a serious assault at about 01:00 GMT on Saturday.
The victim, who police have now named as Matthew Phillips, 44, was found with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Timothy Tinson, 43, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder and remanded to appear at Hull Crown Court on Thursday.
Due to prior police contact, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), a spokesperson for the Humberside force said.
