A blood sample spillage has caused a road to be closed while a clean up operation takes place.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust said the spillage involved processed samples from the town's Manor Hospital and anyone walking through the area was advised not to touch anything they may see on the road or pavement or pick up any small pieces of plastic.

Alumwell Road at its junction with Moat Road was closed to traffic, following the spillage earlier in the afternoon.

The trust and Walsall Council have thanked the community for its support. It is not yet clear how the spillage happened.
