A man involved in disorder in the wake of the Southport stabbings has been jailed after admitting injuring a police officer.

West Midlands Police said teams were deployed to Solihull on 4 August, following reports a group at a pub were heading for a local mosque, and put up a cordon to stop them.

The force said while many of the up to 40 men returned inside The Greville Arms, Adam Turner, 38, hit one officer before throwing a pint glass, which smashed on his leg.

Turner was sentenced to 16 months at Birmingham Crown Court, after pleading guilty to affray.

He had been drinking at the pub on Cornyx Lane when officers arrived at about 19:30 BST, West Midlands Police said.

The force said so far 14 people had been charged in relation to disorder over the summer and appealed for help in tracing others who were involved.
