A man is in hospital being treated for a bleed on the brain after being attacked by two men in a town centre.
Gloucestershire Police officers were called to the Market Square in Cirencester at about 22:40 BST on Saturday where the victim, in his 40s, was found unconscious with serious injuries to his face and head.
He was taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, where he was treated for a bleed on the brain, a head injury, a suspected broken jaw and displaced teeth, police said.
It is believed two people fled the scene before officers arrived and Gloucestershire Police said witnesses reported hearing the suspects say they were from Swindon.
The first man is described as white, around 5ft 8ins (1.77m) tall with short, black hair and a full beard. He had tattoos on his face and was wearing black clothing.
The second man was also described as wearing black clothing and had his hood up.
A police cordon put in place while forensics enquiries were carried out has been lifted, but investigators are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have relevant dashcam or phone footage, to contact them.
