A man has died and three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a stabbing.

Emergency services were called to Filton Avenue in Horfield, Bristol, at about 03:45 BST, after a report from a member of the public.

The victim, who was able to get into a car and drive a short distance to Oakley Road before needing to stop and calling an ambulance, was taken to Southmead Hospital and died shortly after.

Avon and Somerset Police said they arrested three men, all in their 20s, in connection with the incident at about 04:20 BST.

Ch Insp Keith Smith said, while formal identification is yet to take place, the force believed the man who died was in his late-30s.

He said the incident would "understandably cause upset and concern within the local community" and there would be "additional high-visibility patrols in the area over the next few days".

“This is clearly a hugely distressing time for the man’s family and therefore we would ask people are sensitive to that and avoid speculating about what may have taken place while those enquiries are carried out," he added.

Connor Davey, who lives on Filton Avenue, said he woke up to blue flashing lights outside at about 03:45 BST.

There was a "heavy police presence", he said, with cars blocking each end of the road.

"It's a bit scary to be honest with you, it's literally on our doorstep. It's shocking really. It's sad, really sad," he said.

The arrested men remain in police custody.

Anyone who may have footage from the surrounding area, including dashcam, or anyone who witnessed what happened has been urged to contact police.

Filton Avenue remains closed while investigation work is carried out, with buses in the area being re-directed.
