A man has admitted gathering parts to make a homemade bomb and visiting a British Army barracks in Windsor in preparation for terrorist acts.

Ilyas Akhtar, 20, from Slough, Berkshire, pleaded guilty to a number of charges at the Old Bailey on Friday.

The court was told he visited Victoria Barracks in Windsor and accessed instructions and gathered parts to make an improvised explosive device between July 2024 and May 2025.

Akhtar appeared by video link from Belmarsh Prison and denied a number of other charges.

They related to alleged arson attacks at Slough Ice Arena on 14 May and Salt Hill Activity Centre, in the town, on 31 May.

A trial on the other charges is scheduled for Woolwich Crown Court on 19 October 2026.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb remanded him into custody.
