A drug dealer caught throwing 1kg of cocaine over a garden fence has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Franky Brown, 27, was seen by police to pick up the drugs from a property in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, and get into a taxi on 23 March.

When officers stopped the vehicle, Brown attempted to run away and was seen to throw a brown paper bag, containing the Class A drug, over a fence.

Brown, of Langham Drive in the town, was jailed at Chelmsford Crown Court having admitted possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of criminal property.

The investigation was started when police saw him leaving a home in North Road.

Officers later found £15,000 in cash, 50g (1.7oz) of cocaine and almost 30g (1oz) of MDMA at properties linked to Brown.

Brown picked up a "significant quantity" of drugs, police said

"Quite clearly, Brown had no idea what was going to happen to him that day," said Det Insp Frazer Low, of the serious and organised crime unit.

"He went to pick up a significant quantity of drugs and he expected to be able to fulfil his role in the operation.

"But instead, he was stopped and a significant amount of drugs which were destined for sale in Essex were seized and destroyed."
