Historic pub named one of the best in the country

A 17th century inn has been crowned one of the top pubs in the country thanks to its real ciders and "friendly atmosphere".
The Crossways Inn in West Huntspill, Somerset, won the best pub in the south west of England by the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA).
Landlady Abi Dean said winning the award has already boosted business, particularly after the challenges of the pandemic.
The venue will now compete for the title of the best pub in the UK in the national competition.
CAMRA south west regional director Peter Bridle said that selecting a winner involves considering factors such as the quality of service, the overall atmosphere, and the standard of the offerings.
"The value for money is important, we're not wishing the pubs to be cheap but we think they should be a reasonable value for money.
"The Crossways Inn is a wonderfully run community pub with fantastic customer service and a superb drinks and food offering," he added.
The venue has previously won the title of the best pub in Somerset.
Ms Dean added that "smiling, being happy, and sharing jokes" with customers are key to keeping them coming back.
She continued: "It's all about making customers feel welcome and offering a great range of beer and food."
Steve Dean has been at the pub for 15 years and Abi joined six years later.
Steve said: "We try to have a different ale for each persons taste."
