A World War Two bomb has been detonated by explosives experts after it was found at a supermarket.

Hertfordshire Police was called to Morrisons in Welwyn Garden City at 10:57 BST on Monday.

Officers were sent to Black Fan Road, along with the fire service and a bomb disposal team, and the area was cordoned off.

A police spokesperson said: "Authorities were satisfied that it was a World War Two bomb, and it was safely detonated at Holwell Hyde Fishing Lakes at around 15:00."

The store has since reopened.
