Job numbers increase by more than 5% since 2019

The public sector saw the largest increase in jobs over the last five years

The number of jobs in Jersey has risen by more than 5% over the last five years, according to a report by Statistics Jersey.

In total, there was an increase of 3,410 jobs (up 5.6%) from December 2019 to December 2024.

The public sector saw the largest growth in that time period with a 21.5% increase (1,750) while the private sector saw an increase of 3.1% (1,650).

The departments with the largest changes over this period were children, young people, education and skills, up 680, and health and care, up 380.

The report is published every six months and covers key aspects of the job market for both the private and public sector. ​​

At the end of 2024, the total number of jobs on the island stood at 64,790, according to the report.

This accounts for 54,910 jobs in the private sector and 9,880 jobs in the public sector.

The number of jobs, in both private and public sectors, were at their highest in December since records began.
