Police officers investigating reports that a diver may have gone missing say a car and personal belongings have been found nearby.

A sea search was initially called off last Friday off Porth Ysgaden on the Llŷn peninsula in Gwynedd, although a land search continued.

Sea and land searches are now continuing to try to find the man, who has been named by North Wales Police only as Imrich, aged 53, and from the Warrington area of Cheshire, about 110 miles (177km) away.

Police said a silver Ford Mondeo Titanium owned by him was in a car park close to Porth Ysgaden, along with some of his belongings.

The alarm was initially raised last Thursday, when the first searches were launched, involving a helicopter, plane, coastguard rescue teams, a lifeboat and police.

Ch Insp Stephen Pawson of North Wales Police said: “We are keeping all lines of inquiry open and are appealing to anyone who might have seen Imrich to get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity.

“Anyone who was in the area of Porth Ysgaden on Wednesday, 27 November or Thursday, 28 November and hasn’t already been in touch is asked to make contact with us.
