Yorkshire fundraiser Lindsey Burrow and BBC Look North's Amy Garcia have raised thousands of pounds for charity with a 30-mile three-legged walking challenge across the region for BBC Children in Need.

The pair took part in the Thousand Mile Challenge Extra Leg, with dozens of BBC radio presenters and celebrities collectively walking 1,000 miles last week in aid of the cause.

Lindsey, who has run several marathons in memory of her late husband, rugby league legend Rob Burrow, and Amy arrived to cheering crowds as they finished the challenge at Forget Me Not Hospice in Huddersfield on Friday.

Both women thanked the public for the support shown during their two-day walk across Yorkshire.

After crossing the finish line, the pair were told they had raised more than £7,000 just from donations into fundraising buckets on the streets during the challenge.

Amy described Lindsey as the "the strongest woman I've ever met"

After a day of walking in the wind and rain, Lindsey said: "We are just so relieved to get here."

She added: "To come here and see so many children, that's the reason we did it, to fundraise for Children in Need and the incredible work charities do."

Amy said: "The generosity of our incredible community has definitely been the highlight."

The pair began their walk on Thursday, setting off from Airedale Academy in Castleford, where Rob went to school, in front of the Rob Burrow Fitness Suite.

After completing the first 15 miles, they ended the first day of the challenge in Selby.

They set off again to walk from Barnsley to Huddersfield on Friday.

During the second day's 12 hour walk, the pair, who were tied together by the ankles, made their way through High Hoyland, Clayton West, Emley, Grange Moor, Kirkheaton and Colne Bridge.

Four children and a woman stood outside with smiles on their faces. The children are holding a colourful banner with balloons on which reads 'Well done'.

They reached the Forget me Not Hospice at about 18:40 GMT, where they were welcomed by cheering supporters.

Lindsey said that the second day of the challenge had been a "long slog" and the women had had to "dig deep at certain points".

Amy added: "The turnout has been amazing and we are so thankful for the generosity."
