Motorists on the M1 in Leicestershire faced major delays after a crash involving a motorbike.

East Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash, between junctions 20 and 21, on Tuesday morning.

The motorway was closed in both directions initially to allow the air ambulance to land and the northbound road was reopened soon after, but the southbound carriageway did not reopen until 13:10 BST, National Highways said.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said the motorcycle rider was believed to be seriously injured, but added they were awaiting further assessment.
