Two teenagers have been arrested after a boy sustained a gunshot injury during a reported fight involving a firearm and machetes.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital after police were called to Beauvais Square in Shortstown, near Bedford, at about 23:00 BST on 2 August.

Police said the boy's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

A 17-year-old boy, arrested shortly after on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, has been bailed, and a second boy, 16, arrested on Friday on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of a bladed article, remains in police custody.

Bedfordshire Police said it was "establishing the circumstances around what led to this disgraceful violence".

It has asked for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
