Adult and child escape fire in high-rise flats

About 25 firefighters have attended a fire in a 21-storey block of flats in Wolverhampton.

The fire started on the fifth floor of Longfield House in Heath Town at about 19:50 BST.

An adult and a child left the flat before the fire service arrived and everyone has been accounted for.

The fire affected the living room and caused smoke damage to the rest of the flat on Tithe Croft.

Five fire engines, from Wolverhampton, Tettenhall, Bloxwich, Bilston and Dudley were at the scene.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.

The adult and child received precautionary checks from paramedics, the fire service said.
