A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after a woman's handbag was stolen from inside Nottingham Cathedral.

Nottinghamshire Police said an officer was flagged down by the 75-year-old victim outside the cathedral at 17:15 BST on Wednesday.

A 41-year-old man was detained a short time later in East Circus Street and a handbag was recovered nearby, the force added.

Ch Insp Kylie Westlake said it was a "horrible incident for the victim who appears to have been targeted as she visited a place of worship".
