Police appeal after serious sexual assault in woods

Patrols have been stepped up in woods near Coalville

Police have launched an investigation into a serious sexual assault near Coalville.

Officers were called to an area of Grace Dieu Woods at 11:53 BST on Thursday after a woman reported being attacked.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution and is being supported by specialist officers.

Leicestershire Police confirmed forensic searches were ongoing and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Increased patrols are in place in the area of Grace Dieu Woods as further searches continue.

Det Insp Jenny Tattersall said: "I'd like to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to identify and arrest the person responsible for this attack.

"I'd like to urgently speak to anyone who was in the woods yesterday morning - regardless of whether you saw anything out of the ordinary or not. Please contact us."
