The owners of a water park near Scarborough have been given permission to install 10 glamping pods after it was deemed they would have "no detrimental impact on its countryside location".

Dawnay Estates' application to install 10 of the pods in a field at Charm Park Lane, Wykeham, was approved by North Yorkshire Council.

The grass field site near Charm Park Camping Field was part of the North Yorkshire Water Park at Wykeham Lakes, councillors were told.

Planners described the proposed level of development at the site as "modest", and said it was "similar to other tourist developments recently granted planning permission".

According to the plans, all the pods would be made of timber, clad in grey felt shingles.

A North Yorkshire Council planning officer said: "The pods utilising the site will not form a readily visible or prominent feature outside of the site.

"As such, there will be no significant visual impact on the street scene or area in general.

"It is felt that the structures would consequently be well integrated into the plot and general area."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, plans included three pods measuring about 16ft (5m) by 10ft (3m), and seven pods measuring about 13ft (4m) by 10ft (3m).

Plans stated that all 10 of the pods would stand about 8ft (2.5m) tall.

North Yorkshire Council said the developer would be required to deliver a biodiversity net gain of at least 10%.

Meanwhile, a biodiversity gain plan would have to be submitted and approved before the development could commence.

The application was approved by the authority subject to conditions.
