Man charged with murder over fatal stabbing

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after another man was fatally stabbed in Leeds.

Officers were called to Cardigan Road in Headingley shortly before 16:30 BST on Friday, and Elsiado Marku, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Eljon Markaj, 31, of no fixed address, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody before he was next due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 3 September.

Mr Markaj was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police continued to urge anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.
