Zara Macdonald from Dornoch said: "Our local lifeboat station held a wonderful event to celebrate VJ Day and this young piper climbed to the top of a nearby hill to finish the night off with one last song. It was a very special moment for everyone in attendance."

Douglas Grieve said: "We climbed Beinn Sgulaird in Appin and expected to be first to the summit. This Munro-bagging sheep had other ideas."

Claire Davidson said: "Managed to snap a picture of Dunnottar Castle emerging through a blanket of morning fog."

David May took this photo of the Callanish Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis. He said: "What a fabulous mystical place. It is absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. I would have lingered a lot longer but the Hebridean midges are fierce."

Chris Reekie said: "On one of this week's stunning summer evenings I came across this young roe buck making use of the crop cover before the combine harvester came in to cut the field near St Andrews."
