Teenage boys arrested after man in 70s assaulted

Two teenage boys have been arrested after a man in his 70s was allegedly assaulted.

Northamptonshire Police said the man was assaulted by a group of teenage boys in High Street, Rushden, at about 14:00 BST on 13 August. The group ran away when officers arrived at the scene.

The arrested boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

The older boy was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug. Both have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A member of the public stepped in to help apprehend one of the arrested boys and officers said they would like them to come forward so they can thank them.

Officers are also appealing for anyone else who witnessed the assault to contact them.
