A man who was found with £1.5m-worth of cocaine stashed in his car after he was pulled over on the M6 has been jailed for more than five years.

Peter Wiggins, of Wordsworth Crescent in Blacon, Chester, was stopped while driving a Vauxhall Astra near Stafford Services on 26 November, Cheshire Police said.

When officers asked him if he had anything of interest, the 55-year-old told them there was a box in the boot.

Fifteen wrapped-up blocks of cocaine were found in the box, which police said were estimated to have a total potential street value of £1.5m.

Det Sgt Roy Wellings said Wiggins had travelled to an address in the West Midlands and remained there for two hours before driving back towards Cheshire.

After Wiggins was arrested, police searched his home and seized more than £500 in cash, two bags and a tub filled with white powder and a knuckle duster.

He was charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

Wiggins pleaded guilty to both charges and was jailed for five years and four months at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday.
