A scout group says "it's all about making scouting affordable" after generating a profit of about £1,500 from selling hundreds of cups of coffee at a village festival.

Godiva Explorers in Coventry said it wanted to use the money made at Brinklow Festival in Warwickshire for sports equipment and activities for children.

Scouts have a mobile coffee facility and learned to be baristas.

Funding for the equipment came from a grant from retail firm One Stop, with the group saying they wanted to use it to "buy something which would continue to generate money".

A Godiva Explorers spokesman said that meant that it did not need to continuously approach others for cash to fund activities, but could "do it ourselves".

"In an area where we do have families that are struggling, it means that we can provide those great activities and not put the costs on to the family because we have the kit, we're self sufficient," he said.

The festival on Saturday and Sunday included live music, a dog show, classic cars and craft stalls.

It raised money for charities and groups in Brinklow.

The Godiva Explorers spokesman said: "One of the big things for scouts across the UK is skills for life, so it's all about getting them ready for the future.

"So one of the things we wanted to do was make sure that they had a fundraising opportunity that not only raised money for the group, but also helped them with those skills that they needed.

"We sat down, we had a real great brainstorm as to what we could do and we came up with a mobile coffee shop."
