A 24-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder his mother by repeatedly stabbing her on the head and body.
Struan Fraser is alleged to have started the attack on Karen MacLeod at his home in the village of Bonar Bridge, Sutherland, on 17 July.
He is accused of then following his 50-year-old mother out into the street, where he forced her to the ground before continuing to stab her.
Mr Fraser's solicitor made no application for bail during a brief appearance at Inverness Sheriff Court.
He is expected to appear again in court within the next eight days.
Ms MacLeod was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness after police received reports of a disturbance at Mr Fraser's home.
It is believed 11 police vehicles attended the scene along with two ambulances and the air ambulance.
