Club opens book of condolence for George Baldock

Football fans have been invited to sign a book of condolence after the death of George Baldock.

The Buckingham-born Greece international was found dead in the swimming pool of his house in Glyfada, southern Athens on Wednesday.

Baldock started his career at MK Dons in 2009, playing more than 100 times, and supporters will be able to share their memories , external in the book at the team's club shop on Saturday ahead of a minute's silence before the game against Port Vale.

Former chairman and owner Pete Winkleman told BBC Three Counties Radio: "This is a really emotional time for so many people in Milton Keynes and our football club."

Describing how people at MK Dons felt, he said "everybody is completely on the floor".

A statement from the League Two club said: "Everyone at MK Dons is utterly devastated by the news of George's passing and takes comfort in the knowledge we will all come together, as one, this Saturday to remember one of our own."

Players from both MK Dons and Port Vale will be wearing black armbands during the match at Stadium MK.

Dons' head coach Scott Lindsey coached Baldock, external when he was assistant manager at Tamworth.

He said: "I think it's important we do something. He was a great servant to this football club and will always be remembered.

"And of course the players, you want them to go out there and perform and win the game for George."

'Loved forever'

Mr Winkleman praised the "model player" who would be "loved forever" at the club.

"It's just not right, he had so much left still to give," he said.

"What he achieved was from his own fight, his own desire, his own ambition, his own ability to go and compete with the very best. A Milton Keynes boy doing that, we're so proud of him.

"It's so sad, it really is."

After his time at MK Dons, Baldock played for Sheffield Utd 205 times before he joined Greek side Panathinaikos in May.
